Basically, the goal of poker is to create the best possible hand. Players make bets and then reveal their hands in a showdown. The player with the best hand wins the pot. This form of poker is most commonly played with a 52-card deck.
The first round of betting involves the antes. These are small bets that are usually around $1 or $5. The ante amount is determined by the table.
Players will then decide whether to bet, fold, or check. If you choose to bet, you’ll place a bet in the middle of the pot. If you choose to fold, you’ll leave the pot without showing your hand. You may also be forced to make a bet. For example, if the player to your left has a hand of three of a kind and you’re not, you’re forced to make a bet.
The second round of betting involves the blinds. The blinds are forced bets. If you’re the player to the left of the dealer, you’re required to post a small blind. The blinds give you something to chase after.
The third round of betting involves the final bet. After all of the players have made their bets, players reveal their hands. The hand with the highest hand wins the pot. If multiple players have a hand of the same rank, the high card breaks the tie.
The fourth round of betting involves the turn. After the turn, the dealer deals a card to each player. The hand to the left of the dealer is the first to be dealt.
